A Day At the Races in full cry

Just arrived on the market for the first time in 13 years is ‘ A Day At The Races’    http://www.networkyachtbrokers.co.uk/boats_for_sale/Nicholson_35-04176.html/

This classic racer was designed by Peter Nicholson for Owen Aisher to compete under the old One Ton Cup Rule, the boat’s original name was Yeoman XIV. Built by Camper and Nicholson in 1966 her construction was of teak planks over mahogany frames.

In 1967 Peter Nicholson helmed her in the Copenhagen One Ton Cup as one of three British boats.

Barrie Martin bought her in 2001, attracted by the pedigree, but particularly by her materials.

After 35 years at sea a major refit was called for. The work was carried out at the Agamemnon Boatyard at Bucklers Hard   http://www.bucklers.co.uk . All the structural and mechanical elements were replaced, including keels bolts, floors and a 13 foot long mast step. Most of the electrical components were replaced, along with the drive shaft. A new Yanmar GM20 was fitted.

Below the cooker and sanitary ware were renewed but the original mahogany shipwrighting was retained as far as possible.

Barrie bought new high tech Doyle D4 kevlar sails with which he is very pleased.

The original Yeoman name was taken by Owen Aisher for his next boat. After that she was named Quailo for three years, then Dalcassion. Barrie decided to call her A Day at the Races to reflect her competitive history.

Since her relaunch in March 2003 A Day at the Races has been moored in Beaulieu. Apart from the Round the Island Race she’s taken part with respectable results in the RSYC double handed series and won a race in Cowes Week 2004. In 2005 A Day at the Races came fifth overall in the Cowes Week handicap class and third in class in the British Classic Yacht Club Regatta. In 2006 she was again third in class in the British Classic Yacht Club Regatta.

The Lymington office of Network Yacht Brokers has just listed a Jeanneau Merry Fisher 8 in absolutely top condition.Merry Fisher 8

She has been well maintained and lightly used .  Her engine is the fast, reliable Nanni T4 diesel which is also very economical. It has only 50 hours on the clock and has been regularly serviced.

She has everything needed for safe trips offshore and coastal passages. As well as a Garmin Radar she has a large 12 inch screen Garmin 7012 touch screen plotter with sounder module. For ease of anchoring she has a Lewmar  electric windlass and her Max Power bow thruster makes it easy to moor up in the tightest and most awkward of berths.

She sleeps 4 in a saloon double berth and the pilot house table converts into a good size double. Her heads have a hot water shower , sink and vanity unit while her galley is well laid out with refrigerator, twin burner and stainless steel sink. There are full cabin curtains and cockpit cushions as well as a cockpit table.

For safty she has a 6 man liferaft, MOB sling,flares and fire extinguisher.
